Well, he did!!

He had told me he was going to wrap a present(which explains the scissors).

He returned with the front and top chopped. He said " Look Mom, now you can see my beautiful eyes"!

Yes, Yes, I can.

After I told him we would have to cut the rest off, he cried and cried. Pretty much all morning. His saddest moment was when he thought he was going to look like grandpa bill.

Disney Land

Jed had a job in Anaheim a few weeks back and he ended up staying at the Disney Land Hotel. We couldn't pass up a last minute trip to visit Mickey and friends. My mom, Miles and I hopped on a plane and spent 3 lovely warm days in California. I courageously bought 3 day hopper passes. Luckily the weather was fabulous and there were no crowds ( the first 2 days anyway). Poor Jed was stuck inside all day. We were able to see him during a 45 min. dinner break.

side note: while writing this post and drinking hot chocolate, I found a little green floatie in my hot chocolate which resembles a small piece of basil.... kind of nasty! That reminded me, the other day while at my mother's house in logan, I was eating a bowl a cereal for breakfast. I finished the cereal, looked down and saw a multitude of little brown bugs floating in the milk. After throwing up a little in my mouth, I started complaining to my mother. My darling little sister Jessey pipes up " oh, sorry, I forgot to throw that box away"........................ ( long pause with a glare)............not one of my finest moments. Just thought I would share!

Anyway, back to Disney. We were able to spend lots of time with Mickey and Goofy and Pluto because there was no one else there to demand their attention. Miles' favorites were It's a small world, the Rockets, Pluto, and chatting with people in line with us. Friendly little chap that miles is.

Tis the Season

This year will be our first year spending Christmas at home. I thought it was time we started our own family traditions. I stole this new tradition from my darling friend Julianne. It is called Tis the Season, and it goes like this... First day of December, we have a fancy dinner. Ours consisted of Roast, red potatoes, green beans, baguette, and of course some sparkling juice. Miles opened two gifts. Christmas jammies and a blanket ( handcrafted by yours truely), to be enjoyed all Christmas season. Jed shared the christmas story complete with video. We picked out our tree at the local tree stop, and finished up the night decorating and listening to christmas tunes. It was a lovely night. Thanks Juli for sharing your tradition. I am open to more suggestions. If you have any, please share!

Fantastic Four

A huge gigantic thank you to the fantastic four that helped out with the children ( one of those being our dog) while we were away. You guys are the best. Especially Auntie Mandie who took the hardest shift. Miles during the day every day. Auntie Holly for taking Bogart, My mom and Auntie Jessey for taking the night shift. We had a great time in New York. Mostly because we knew our posterity was in good hands.

NYC pt.1

New York City, here we come. Jed and I planned a trip to NY for both of our birthdays. So we ended up going somewhere inbetween the two. We took the red eye to JFK and got into Manhattan at about 6:30 am. We spent most of the day in a no sleep daze wantering around the city, trying to figure out where we were and where we wanted to go. We ate breakfast in Time Square, and then stumbled upon the Today Show. We hung out there until we saw a few faces we recognized. We headed on down to 5th Avenue, FAO Schwartz. We took a nap in central park. We went to the Met, took another nap in central park. We then retired early to New Jersey where we were staying for the week, thanks to our friends Matt and Jessica Stevenson, who lovingly let us stay with them.

Friday morning we got up early to go surfing. This vacation surprisingly was a 2 for 1 package deal. NYC vacation, and beach surfing vacation. The waves were pretty good and the beach was super nice too.

We went into the city after lunch and checked out the Statue of Liberty. This one was mostly for Miles who told everyone we were going to see Lady Liberty.

That evening we met up with our good buddy "The Dish" She showed us a good time. We went to a swing club that she frequents. The night we were there, they were filming a commercial. This did not help with the courage we were already lacking to get out on the dance floor. They were in desperate need of fillers for the commercial. I told them I would not dance for the commercial, so they used me as a.......I am not sure. All i know is i was supposed to talk to some guy, pretend like the band was amazing, and they put a martini glass in my hand. Don't worry, I didn't partake. The night ended with a stroll through Time Square once again.

NYC pt. 2

Saturday and Sunday were very low key. We ate lunch at the infamous Shake Shack. The line was out of control. It wrapped half way around the park, across the street and down into the subway station. Ok, not really, but it seemed that way, especially because Jed was hungry. If any of you know my hubby, he needs to be fed. My theory about long lines at food joints goes like this (and I had a lot of time to figure out this theory): It is the sacrifice that makes the food so good. The first of the line, all you can think about is how good this hamburger and fries are going to be. By the middle of the line, you are like ok, this better be worth it. When you finally see the end in sight you have yourself all psyched out about this hamburger, it didn't matter what they put in front of you, it was going to be delicious. Not to mention you are famished. So was the Shake Shack good? YES!! it was delicious. 1 hour and 15 minutes delicious.

After lunch we spent the whole day shopping in Soho. Our goal was to find Jed a motorcycle jacket for his birthday. Which we did, at the G Star store. For Dinner we ate at Mooncakes for some yum - O chicken wings and dumpling soup.

Sunday we spent the day in New Jersey with Matt and Jess. We went to church, hung out on the beach, Jess made a spectacular dinner, and we played a little beach volleyball. Thanks Matt and Jess for giving us a sweet condo to stay in and some fantastic memories.

NYC pt. 3

By Monday we were out of money, so we opted for the free entertaiment. Brooklyn Bridge ( free). We walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. It started out kind of disappointing, but by the time you got to the middle, it was pretty cool, I guess. On the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge is a delightful pizza place "Grimaldi's" We only had to wait in line for 45 minutes this time, but very tastey. Afterwards, a walk down to the water where there is a fantastic view of the NY skyline, and a nice cold ice cream cone (which I would regret later...keep reading). On the way back across the bridge I did encounter some difficulties. We got about half way across the bridge, and my lactose set in ( I don't think I am really lactose intolerant, but I would image that the results would be similar). I couldn't continue, each step I took, it got worse. I was in a major pickle. No bathroom in sight. Literally, even when I would be getting off the bridge, there are NO ( other than starbucks) public restrooms in NY. I learned this quickly, to always make mental note of the nearest starbucks incase tragedy struck. Anywho, you can see my dilemma. If I stopped walking and sat down, it would momentarily subside, but the second I stood back up, it would be worse than before I sat down. Starbucks seemed like a world away. What was a girl to do. I started panicking, sweating, I WAS NOT going to make it. I started making plans of Jed going to the store to buy me new pants, but I liked these pants, they were just starting to grow on me. What pants would i have him buy? If I am going to buy new jeans in NY they better be good ones. Not now, I have to focus! Bathroom, where are you! At this moment, I started to cry. Nothing could be worse than the situation I was in right then. Then I had a brilliant idea. "Jed you have to carry me half way across the Brooklyn Bridge and to a Starbucks. And not just carry me, RUN." So that is exactly what the best husband in the world would do and did. I jumped on Jed's back and he ran me and our two bags, to the nearest starbucks. I wish upon a star I had a picture of that. We were a sight to behold. After the longest 5 minutes of my life, we made it to the starbucks. Low and behold there were 10 people in line to use the restroom. I offered each of those 10, cold cash to let me butt in line. Turns out New Yorkers are nicer than you think. They let me butt, and wouldn't take the $$. They found my misfortune comical. Whatever..... I will always remember the strawberry banana smoothie at starbucks to be the best and most relaxing beverage I will ever consume. And that is the end of that story.

A little boring after thought: We checked out Grand Central Station. They are right about one thing, it is grand and it is central. The New York Library. Pretty cool. We stumbled upon the Temple in our search to get tickets to South Pacific. Pretty cool. We ate dinner at a super hip cafe called "Cafe Habana" in Soho, where we ate Corn Nacho Libre Style ( "Save some of that corn for me"). We retired early after an eventful day.

Our last day we spent half the day trying to find me some shoes that didn't kill my feet, checked out Greenich Village, and shopped at Century 21 (Ross times 2000). It was too overwhelming, Jed and I both were going crazy after 10 minutes. But some serious deals for all you bargain shoppers. Off to JFK and home sweet home.

Lets be honest, no one wants to hear about the 8 worst things that have happened right?

#1 We got a new puppy. Bogart. But we call him Humphry Bogart for short. He is a french bulldog. He loves to poop and pee on milo's rug, Chew on my furniture and bark at 6:30 in the morning. But he is so dang cute. We love him to pieces and he really is a sweet heart. Any puppy advice? I will take it.

I put down flor tiles in my kitchen. Whoever said carpet in the kitchen is the worst idea, I disagree. I love that is takes me 1.5 minutes to vacuum as opposed to 15 minutes it would have taken to sweep and mop. I may change my mind after miles spills an entire plate of spaghetti or something equally as messy. But as for now, I am in heaven.

Today we went to the fire station for pre school. The fire men were super friendly and let the kids climb around in the trucks, and try on their clothes. The highlight of the trip:

Last night Miles was playing extra quiet with Jed's tractor lego set he got for his birthday ( see 4 posts down). I would like to add that this lego set is the ultra tiny lego's that are for 9-12 year olds. After about 20 min. of me not paying any attention to what he was doing ( I tend to ignore him when he is being really good). Miles presented me with this "Dump Truck". I had no idea he had such skills. I was so proud of him. He was quite proud of himself also. Looks like we will have to pack up the Duplo's (They are so Lame)!

Triathlon

Jed and I competed in the Jordanelle Triathlon Saturday. We both had tons of fun. The swim was my favorite. I loved swimming in the open water. It was very refreshing and invigorating. The bike was tons of fun too, except when the man swore at me. Other than that, the bike=a good time. The run.... well, it wasn't so fun. I kept a pretty good attitude through most of it, but it was all I could do to put one foot in front of the other. My goal was to finish, and I did, so goal accomplished. Jed is already planning for the next one. As for myself, I had my fill of spandex for a while. Maybe next year.

We had a killer birthday party for Jed. Miles helped with all the planning. He loves nothing more than a great birthday party. It went something like this... Chucky Cheese for dinner, Party hats, Yellow balloons and streamers. Miles was certain Jed wanted a Dora birthday cake ( who wouldn't ). To top it all off, Miles picked out a sweet tractor lego set as a gift. Needless to say, it was a success.

The next night Jed and I saw Brian Regan at Thanksgiving Point. What a funny guy!!

Best ward ever

So we basically have the best ward ever. We are so sad to leave. The whole YM and YW(40+ people) came over the other night and helped us rip up all the carpet,de nail the wood floors, haul garbage, sand, and rake. It is true what they say:

Many hands make light work.

They did in one hour what would have taken us 3 weeks. Thanks Hillcrest 6th ward. You are the best!

Roller Skating

We went roller skating with our ward the other night. I have to admit it has been a while, but we had a blast. Turns out Miles has really good balance and wore his skates all night.

Our Humble Home

After a year of looking, 4 houses, many tears and tribulation, we have finally purchased our first home. We are so excited or 'cited' as Miles would say.

Here are the specs:

Built in 1930's sometime. 3 bedroom 2 bath upstairs and a legal accessory apt. ( 1 bed/1 bath) in the basement.

As you can see in the photos, it needs a lot of work. It has only been 2 days, but I am already having so much fun fixing it up and making it ours.

Airplanes and Babies

Some tricks I have learned, flying with Baby

1- Get a window seat! You would think it would be easier to have an isle seat incase your child needed a diaper change, etc. I have found it way more of a hassle having an isle seat. All Miles wanted to do is run up and down the isle and visit with the other passengers. Which I am sure is adorable the first 5 times. The rest of the flight, I am fighting him to stay out of the way of the flight attendants and their giant carts that take up the whole isle.

It is better that they are contained, and have to climb over two stranger's laps to get to the isle. Much more intimidating. Plus looking out the window, and the cool sliding things that open and close the window, is something that can be very entertaining, and you don't have to pack it in your already too big purse that is crowding your feet. Wow, that was a long sentence.

2-Keep entertainment items small and not every day toys. Some items that have worked for us..

stickers. As seen in a photo posted earlier. This took up a good half hour. We tried to find the funniest places to put stickers.

one I learned from my sister in law, is get a small box or tupperware and cut slits in it big enough to fit coins through. You probably want to wash the money first. This worked wonders on our trip to Hawaii ( 4 hour flight?) Hours of entertainment. The fascination that he actually got to play with money, plus he delighted in putting the little coins through the little slits.

gum worked good for immediate distraction and bribery. Who cares if it stays in his system

for 7 years.

3- Opt for a water with a lid as opposed to a cup and can of soda. When you are sharing a seat with a kicking child, a cup of soda sitting on a flimsy table right at foot level is way more work than it is worth. Or maybe purchase a soda with a lid before entering the airplane. Somehow I never follow my own advise on this one and end up sharing a tray with my already annoyed neighbor.

4- fly Jet Blue. More leg room, Good snacks and lots of them, Guaranteed your own television with cartoon network. Need I say more?

Christmas Eve

This year we spent Christmas at Jed's parent's house. Christmas Eve was the whole family get together. We had yummy food or course and did white elephant gifts. I got a sweet giant universal remote, and Jed got some Male enhancement pills. Just what we always wanted.
Jed's mom and dad did a retro Christmas this year. For their kids they got them toys that they asked for when they were little. Jed got a snoopy snow cone machine. It was pretty cute. They made all the grandkids little red wooden chairs. The same chairs that Jed's grandma made for her kids when they were little. They are so cute and they have their names engraved on them.

I knew it was wrong the first time I let miles get on one of these little quarter operated contraptions. I can still remember the first time. In the entrance of Wal Mart there was a little horse. I thought Miles would probably enjoy sitting on the horse for a minute. Which he did. As we left the store, he remembered that horse and cried all the way to the car. From then on, he can recognize these toys in all shapes and sizes. Plus side, is he could care less if I actually turn it on or not.

So my advice to you... think twice before letting your child climb on for the first time. It can result in many unnecessary tears .

Jed was in San Francisco the past few days so Miles and I were up in Logan visiting my mom. It had snowed a few inches the night before we went, which was one of the reasons we ended up going.

Miles and Polly don't normally get along that great. But every once in a while we can get them to give each other smooches. As long as I capture them getting along on camera, that is all that counts right?

The Shop

Today Miles did not want Jed to leave and go to work. So Jed being the good daddy he is, took him to work with him. Miles loves nothing more(excluding bagels) than to go to the shop. His favorite things are there. Grandpa Joe, tractors, motorcycles, and tools. He will sit there for hours and "fix things". I of course had no complaints.

1st night in a big boy bed

Tonight was Milo's first night in a big boy bed. He didn't get off the bed at all. I think he thought he didn't have an option. Works for me. I would like to keep it that way. Hopefully we don't hear a thud in the middle of the night!

So here goes

1- I love being surprised! Poor Jed always tries really hard to surprise me, but somehow it usually gets spoiled. For example, tonight Jed was planning on taking me on a surprise date. Our friends came over last night and asked if I was excited for the Regina Spektor concert. Once again, his surprise was spoiled. But I guess i was surprised last night?

2- Hot tubs, Baths, and Showers make me claustrophobic if in them for a long time.

3- There is nothing better than new socks and underwear.

4- I love waking up in the morning, and morning in general. I am always anxiouse to get up and get going.

5- I spend way too much time in front of the computer. Blogging & Shopping ( Filling my shopping baskets, that I never buy from)

6- Last but not least, I hate potatoes, beans, nuts, and onions. Which if you think about it, is in a lot of meals. This one I really need to get over. Especially because my husband likes these food quite a bit.

Trunk or Treat!!

Trunk or treating is the best. Quick and painless. It even came with Dinner ( Chili ). Miles was a littler overwhelmed with the amount of treats in his pumpkin. Last night he was bouncing off the walls at 8:30 ( normally 7:00 is bedtime).

Miles today decided to reinvent a midevil torture treatment. I cringe just thinking about it. So anyway, I will make this short. Miles found one of my mom's crochet hooks and shoved it in my ear and through my eardrum. I know, what a sweetheart. Other than feeling nauseous, dizzy, and having a headache all day, it isn't as bad as you would think. The doc said it should heal on it's own in a couple weeks. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I Love you Miles!!

Jed took some pretty sweet photos of Milo tonight. I am so lucky to have an amazing husband that is so talented. We took the color one and entered it into that babygap contest. We are for sure going to win. Hee Hee

General Confrence

It is tradition for us to watch confrence with the whole family. This weekend we were at my parent's house in Logan. We had a ton of fun. Confrence was awesome. What I got of it anyway. It is hard to listen the whole time with kids running around and screaming. I can't wait to get the November Ensign, so I can read and study the talks. It is great to be with the whole fam. I love them so much and It is great that we get to spend the time together.
In-between sessions on Sunday it is tradition to make my grandpa's famouse pancakes. Yum! Everyone stands around and critiques each other in the pancake cooking. It is pretty funny. Jed doesn't have many years of experience, but he is getting pretty good. He looks a little evil in this picture. HA HA

Grandpa Great

Today MIles couldn't get enough of Grandpa Great. He kept running upstairs to visit grandpa. He insisted on sitting NEXT to grandpa. He sat there for about 10 minutes watching the news and eating peanuts. I am grateful he gets the opportunity to know his grandpa so well.

Lagoon

We went to the annual Icon lagoon day on Friday. The new ride "Wicked" was pretty wicked. Lagoon is definatley moving up. Miles I Assume had fun. I couldn't get an expression out of him either way. He went on most of the kiddy rides with his cousin Willa. His favorite was definatley the cars.

Better late than never. THis is the only photo I have of our trip to Lake Tahoe. At least it is a good one. We went to Lake Tahoe with Jed's family. We had a ton of fun thanks to Matt and Lori for planning it all.

Bubble Bath

This last week, Jed was working for Nu Skin taking pictures at their convention in Salt Lake. Miles and I reaped the benefits of the hotel room, room service, and of course a bath tub ( which we are not priviledged to have at home). Miles took a bubble bath every morning and every night. We couldn't get enough. Oh yeah, the french toast at Little America is DIVINE!

Grandma Jack suprised us with a trip to Kauai!!! We had a blast. Miles loved the ocean and playing in the sand. He and cousin Scarlet became good friends. It was a love hate relationship really. One minute miles was kissing Scarlet, and the next he was hitting and pushing her down. I am sure they will work out their differences.

Camping

We went camping with Amanda, Scott, Macy, Polly, and some of Amanda and Scott's friends, Andrae and Mark. It was the first time we had gone camping since we were married. We had tons of fun, and no bear attacks. The hike to Pittsburg lake was brutal and it wore us out, none the less we returned with only a few minor scrapes and bruises.
